Advent Poems for December 14th, 2025 Feat. Allison Moore Giles
Isaiah 35:1-10, Luke 1:46b-55, & James 5:7-10
Desert Blooms by Allison Moore Giles After Isaiah 35:1-10 In our desert places, lost and wand’ring Behold—a lonely rose is e’er blooming! In drought its petals unfurling, death defying To spite sin’s curse: his own to purify. For lo—the Righteous Branch is now appearing, In stable lowly, his Glory now revealed. Rag-clad sinners in righteousness enrobing, for ransomed sinner’s soul he now appeals. He gives for empty cisterns Living Water And to lame legs the strength to leap and run He opens blinded eyes to see the Father And looks upon our stains and sees his Son— who knows well the way of suff’ring and of drought! His vic’try o’er sin our vic’try bringing restoring all we lost, and so long sought, As we who, sent out weeping, come back singing. All praise to God who’s come to lead us home, Our sin and death defeated, heaven won. --- Spills Over by Drew D. West After Luke 1:46b-55 Looking at the skies’ vastness and knowing about the many patient and pious— I’m so truly insignificant— I’m not mad about it, it’s simply true. But God looks upon me— upon my raw, tattered being and I’m lifted— a new kind of story forms. Now all of me spills over and I magnify all that I’ve taken in of You. --- These Days by Drew D. West After James 5:7-10 The days call for waiting— waiting for the call, or the letter, or the results. The days call for patience— patience for healing, and friendships, and love to bloom again. The crowds shove in these long dark days. But God stands at the door— only a moment divides. We must be like prophets— who act knowing that winter is only temporary and that God’s mercy rests always on the ones pushed aside.
