Jeremiah 31:7-14, Ephesians 1:3-14, & John 1:1-18

A Lavish Summons After Jeremiah 31:7-14 We’ve been too long scattered. Too long homesick. Too long misunderstood since speaking languages not of our own hearts. God is One of lavish summons— of home and homecoming. Can you hear the whisper, drawing us so powerfully? It’s not: “Get your life together, and then we’ll talk.” Or “Stop that sin.” Or “Why are you not yet perfect?” It is “Come home.” --- I Cannot Hold After Ephesians 1:3-14 I cannot hold all Christ showers— the peace, the magnificence of a beautiful world for my distracted eyes to behold. If anything, I’m like that cracked cup, the one sitting on that Goodwill shelf, the one that’s been discounted, again. Though I cannot receive it all— Christ is unshackled still. I’ll try as I might— unclenching— to rejoice in my Savior’s fill. --- Bright, Unmistakable Light After John 1:(1-9), 10-18 The Word searches for a home with us. Love not from afar, but within. The Maker of the World unrecognized, the Lover refused. The shadow of all our stories. Wide-eyed children— let’s embrace the Word made flesh— and be born not of shadows but bright, unmistakable Light.
If you are looking for another poem to reflect on John 1, I would highly recommend “Covenant” by Margaret Halaska. You can read it here. It is one of my favorite poems that might ruin your day, in the best possible way.
